Yagi-bushi this and that
Yagi-bushi, known throughout Japan for its clear rhythm, originated in Yagi-juku （ Yagijuku ） in Mikuriya district.
Both the song （ and the dance ） are loved by the Kanto people, especially the Noshu （ and Yashu ）, the people of the area where it originated, as a simple expression of their disposition.
Yagi-juku （ Yagi-machi ） prospered greatly throughout the Edo period as an inn on the Nikko Neihinsha Highway.
Genta Horigome, the first generation of the Yagi-Bushi (a traditional Japanese folk song), who made it famous throughout Japan by recording it in the Taisho era (1912-1926), was born in Yagi-juku.
It is said that behind this was the hard work of Ishii Tasaburo ・ Hohei and his son, Saito Kanjuro, and others who worked to foster young people through Bon Odori.
On March 1, 1965, Yagi-bushi was designated as an intangible cultural asset of Ashikaga City so that it would become familiar to many people as a modern folk performing art and so that the traditional authenticity of the music would not be lost.
